ATTENTION
OWNERS, TRAINERS,BREEDERS, & HANDICAPPERS TThe small outfits are the backbone of racing. They never get any credit for it. The big tracks have driven them away by not giving them enough stalls or none at all. It has backfired on them and now they are running at other tracks. 60-70 % of the races all over the country are cheap races. These races have big fields that the everyday handicapper wants to bet on. Not short fields with a horse even money or less. My book is about my life as a small time owner, trainer, & handicapper. The book tells of the things that I did wrong and the things that I did right. I wrote it hoping it would it would help the small outfits in this tough game of horse racing. |

Few railbirds could make the transition, and
fewer still could accomplish what Billy Ashabraner did. He went to
the barns at Churchill Downs and offered to work for free in order to
learn the business. He started by mucking stalls and eventually
climbed to the top of the trainers' list, won the Governor's Cup, had an
early Derby favorite, ran the claimer of the year, became a successful
owner, and advised many well-known horsemen on all aspects of racing. |
